Beam Loading Compensation for the Nlc Low Frequency Linacs
نویسندگان
چکیده
The NLC low rf linacs are heavily loaded by a beam of about 130 ns in macropulse length (90 bunches) and a current up to 2.75 Amps. Beam loading voltage generates a large energy spread along the bunch train. This energy spread is critical for lattice design and, if not properly compensated, induces emittance growth and in turn lowers the luminosity of the machine. In this paper, we study the AF and AT beam loading compensation techniques for the NLC low rf linacs. We will apply these methods to the NLC low rf linacs to demonstrate the efficacy of these methods. Finally, we discuss a hybrid AT+ AF method to improve the efficiency of beam loading compensation.

Beam Loading Compensation for the Low Frequency Linacs and Compressors in the Nlc
The low frequency rf linacs and bunch compressors in the NLC are heavily loaded by beam currents up to 0.9 A. Beam loading generates bunch-to-bunch energy deviations, which need to be compensated to operate with long bunch trains in the linear collider. There are two basic compensation techniques, namely T and F schemes. The F scheme is operationally straightforward but requires additional rf s...
متن کاملTransient Beam Loading Compensation in Low-energy Pulsed Linear Electron Accelerators
In pulsed traveling-wave high-intensity electron linacs large beam energy spreads are caused by the transient beam loading phenomenon. This energy spread is not only critical in high-energy accelerators, as the next generation of linear colliders, but it causes also problems in modern low-energy high-intensity linacs. Different compensation schemes were proposed recently for SLED driven structu...

In the design of the Next Linear Collider (NLC), multibunch operation is employed to improve efficiency at the cost of substantial beam loading. The RF pulse that powers the accelerator structures will be shaped to compensate for the effect of the transient loading along the bunch train. This scheme has been implemented in the Next Linear Collider Test Accelerator (NLCTA), a facility built to t...

Abstract The proposed Next Linear Collider (NLC) contains linac systems operating at L,S,C, and X band. This paper describes a wideband modular low-level RF (LLRF) system applicable for all NLC pulsed RF systems. High speed digital IF techniques are used for both arbitrary klystron drive modulation and accurate RF vector detection. Measurement of relative beam to RF phase, beam loading compensa...
متن کاملEnergy Dispersion Compensation and Beam Loading in X-band Linacs for the Jlc/nlc§
The shape of an RF pulse is distorted upon propagating through an X-band accelerator structure due to dispersive effects. This distortion together with beam loading introduce energy spread between 192 bunches. In order to minimize this energy spread we modify the input RF pulse shape. The pulse propagation, energy gain, and beam loading are modelled with a mode-matching computer code and a circ...
